6 Nutritious Foods To Stock Up On During Lockdown

richard laursen Apr 03, 2020

Hopefully, the supermarkets are a bit less crowded if you’re reading this at some point during the lockdown which is being imposed in many countries around the world due to the coronavirus. If so, and you’re wondering what nutritious foods you should be stocking up on when you get the chance to go shopping, have a look down below and see what foods I recommend for continuing to give your body some good nutrition when your usual fresh meat and vegetables might not be available.

6 Nutritious Foods To Stock Up On During Lockdown

Frozen And Canned Foods – Lockdown Allies

Some people make an active effort to avoid tinned or canned foods because they’ve been processed so that the contents can be preserved for a prolonged period of time. They’re often thought to be less nutritious. The contents of the food in the tin or can is sealed and heated in order to kill off any bacteria and prevent the food from spoiling so it’s quite safe to eat...

Red Meat

A True "Superfood" with a Bad Rap

Is there any food more villainized than red meat? If you believed every article on the internet demonizing the consumption of red meat, you would think that eating one steak per day would cause you to suffer obesity, diabetes, numerous cancers, heart disease, and destroy your kidneys simultaneously. Not only that, you’d also believe meat is the cause of global warming! If you take all of this at face value, you’d think nothing is more toxic to our health, to our bodies, or to the environment than red meat. Luckily for those who love a good steak, this is all based on faulty correlations, bad science, and an anti-meat agenda led by animal rights activists.

Religion, and more specifically The Seventh Day Adventist, was one of the original influences behind the demonization of meat. It was believed that eating the flesh of animals resulted in impure thoughts, violence, and as ridiculous as it sounds, made you more prone to...

Convenience is

j. gulinello Mar 12, 2020

It's true, hard to hear possibly but the more we lean towards convenience the further we move away from health. How? Why?

The answer is multi-factorial and overly complex but it turns out that cheap food is a complete illusion and actually has a steep cost. In order to calculate that cost, you must zoom out and understand the interconnected nature of your food and your health. My goal here is to try and boil this down to its simplest form and give you the take-home message that will help you instantly live a better life. These changes should not be underestimated as far as the health impacts they can have.

While not all convenience is bad, too much of most things can harm you. The larger picture is that our bodies, which work constantly and magnificently to keep us alive and maintain a homeodynamic environment were never designed to handle the onslaught of chemicals, pesticides, fillers, stabilizers, dyes, preservatives and anti-caking agents that are...

Why We Should Be Eating More Meat, Not Less

As a species, humans have been eating meat, cheese, butter and eggs for all of human history so how is it we came to believe that these foods are bad for us? One thing is for certain. We wouldn't have eaten these foods if they were bad for us.
Is it possible we've got everything backwards with food and nutrition and we're headed in the wrong direction? Most likely with our increasing rates of illness and obesity along with declining health.

Here at Sapien, we believe that for optimal health we should be including more animal foods in the diet, not less. Animal rights' activists in the last 50 years have taken over the conversation and skewed the data and have convinced our culture into assuming meat is bad for us and the planet without ever investigating whether this is scientific fact.

Meat is not bad for us or the environment.
3.5 million years of meat eating made us human an continue to make us healthy today. Let's begin by going through a six step...

Food is Information

j. gulinello Mar 01, 2020
Science can be messy and humans make it worse!

SCIENCE NOT DOGMA

I refuse to allow scientific debate and nutrition to become personal like some groups will. I am a nutrition student. I don't identify with a diet. I am diet agnostic! I have changed my philosophy and dietary habits over the years based on science, N=1 experiments and my understanding of the human body.

This tendency for people to become entrenched in dietary camps and live in echo chambers is dangerous and is the enemy of progress. If your goal is to live the healthiest and longest life possible, I am with you. If your desire is to be correct or to prove a moral superiority...I have no time for you.

FEAR IS A POWERFUL MOTIVATOR

The origin of our fear of specific foods is rooted in places you wouldn't believe. As humans, we have a tendency to believe the message that is most often repeated and repeated the loudest. Understanding this will help us dig through what is real and what is imagined....

So far she seems like she’s doing great and says her diet was already healthy before and she just cut the last bit of animal foods and felt better.

Super interesting to me because I’ve never heard of this before... I’ve heard of every story but this one...
